Minimizing the Consequences of a Speeding Ticket
Speeding citations and other traffic tickets can be a huge source or revenue for local governments. Because of that, many localities strictly enforce all posted speed limits. For non-local and out-of-state drivers, that's a problem. These drivers may even receive added scrutiny from law enforcement personnel because they are less likely to fight their tickets.
My name is John Kingsley, and as a lawyer, I represent people who've been cited for speeding in Greene, Columbia and Ulster counties in Upstate New York. Part of the work I do is on behalf of local residents but more of my clients are people who were just passing through and do not want to deal with the hassle of returning to the area just for a speeding ticket. Whatever your situation — talk to me and find out how, or if, I can help.

I Don't Know ... How Fast Was I Going Officer?
Not all speeding tickets are equal in the eyes of the law, or to your insurance company. Here's what that means in New York State:
- 1-10 mph over posted limit = 3 points
- 11-20 mph over posted limit = 4 points
- 21-30 mph over posted limit = 6 points
- 31-40 mph over posted limit = 8 points
- 41+ mph over posted limit = 11 points (which also means an automatic drivers' license suspension)
In addition, the bigger the difference between your speed and the posted speed — the greater the likelihood you'll also be charged with reckless driving, which is a very serious offense in its own right.
How Can I Help?
Although it's possible to win some cases outright, many speeding tickets are best dealt with by focusing your efforts on trying to get the violation reduced to one that puts fewer points on your driving record. Here, the respect and credibility I've established as an attorney in this area — combined with my knowledge of local traffic courts — can be invaluable assets that work to minimize the negative consequences of your ticket.
